Surprises

Posted on by Brian Hertzog

Many people avoid or don’t enjoy surprises. Humans like the feeling of being “in control”. Even good surprises scare us sometimes.

Yet, surprises can also make us feel alive. When we are surprised, we are more engaged with the present moment. We don't think about the past or the mountain of emails waiting in our inbox. Instead, we just focus on being and reacting to what's happening now.

Don't always run from surprises. Seek them. They bring energy to our lives. Try it! You might be surprised.

What's Inside

Posted on by Brian Hertzog

What's inside matters.  We have so many sayings and metaphors reflecting this idea.  "Don't judge a book by it's cover" etc.

A cake can have the prettiest, best-looking icing in the world, but if it doesn't taste good, nobody will eat it, and no one will remember.  Don't allocate the majority of your time making pretty icing, instead, bake a damn good cake.

We remember what's inside, the frills are literally just the icing on top.
