I Am Happy

Posted on by Brian Hertzog

How often do we find ourselves wanting more? The bigger apartment, new gadget, the life of the rich and famous.

Do you really want that stuff? Or, have you been sold by marketing and the desire to keep up with the Joneses.

We've all been sold by one thing or another. But when was the last time you took a deep breath and just thought, "I'm happy." Or, "I'm lucky". Most of us don't do this because it's not something we naturally think about. We're transfixed on the future. What's coming next, where will I be going, now what?

It's as if there is no immediate step in front of us, brightly illuminated by multi-color LEDs, we don't know where to walk. When is it ok to just be happy with where we are? I'm certainly not happy all the time, but right now, as I write this, I'm happy.

It's okay to dream big, to want things we might never get, as long as we also take a few seconds to appreciate the things we do have. Even if only for that brief moment, if we think, "I have enough, I'm happy" we'll know what it feels like to have everything we have ever wanted. We'll know what pure satisfaction feels like, and we will smile, deep in our hearts, because we're happy.
